Week Twenty - 12th January
COLTS MARCH ON AT EXMOOR
With both the First Team & Reserves being washed out the Colts were the only ones to enjoy some Football action this Saturday.
After a long journey to Exmoor the Colts wasted no time in taking a two goal lead thanks to Aaron Walford's first ever goal for the club and a Jamie Gardiner strike. In the second half Exmoor pulled a goal back before debutant James Leatherby made it 3-1. Exmoor pulled one back but the Colts held on for three more points towards the Promotion charge.
An enjoyable journey home was had by all especially Gazza with some fine vocals onthe Karoake!!!
Week Nineteen - 5th January
EASY WIN FOR RESERVES AGAINST LOCAL RIVALS
BW Sports Reserves travelled the short distance to East Bridgwater School (That's Sydenham for the old boys!) and had a comtable 4-1 win over local rivals Sydenham Rangers.
First half goals from Timmy Netto and veteran Richard Smith gave the Reserves a 2-0 half time lead and in the second half an own goal and a close range effort from Lee Blewett after Sydenham had pulled one back secured the points.
Sports stay second after the win.
COLTS LOSE IN CLASH OF THE NEW BOYS
BW Sports Colts travelled to Galmington to play Appletree who re-entered the league after a brief abscence but unfortunately the Colts went down 3-0.
Appletree defended well and hit the Colts on the counter attack, however the Colts remain nicely placed in Second just behind Old Inn.
Week Eighteen - 29th December
SPORTS DO DOUBLE OVER MARKETEERS
BW Sports completed the double over local rivals Marketeers winning 5-2 after an outstanding second half display.
Craig McGann gave Sports the lead after just 2 minutes but Marketeers came back to equalise through Dave Baker. Ian Luke put Marketeers ahead just before the break after Sports had wasted numerous chances.
In a fiesty second half Sports dominated from start to finish and further goals from man of the match McGann, Paul Organ, Darryl Cocks and Richard Smith secured a hard fought win which sent Sports to the top of the table.
3 POINTS & CLEAN SHEET FOR RESERVES
A rare clean sheet enabled Sports Reserves to win a close fought game against Milverton 1-0 thanks to Josh Bennet's neat finish.
Week Seventeen - 22nd December
SPORTS KNOCK OUT WYVERN IN KO CUP
Sports travelled to Wyvern who are the only team this season to beat them and came away with an excellent 5-2 win that puts them into the next round of the cup.
Sports went one up through Darryl Cocks but Scott Sealey decided to let Wyvern back into the game with an excellent volley into his own net. Craig McGann restored Sports' lead just before the break.
A superb second half performance saw Matt Fursland score twice and Paul Organ claiming a dubious goal (most believe it was an OG) before Wyvern scored a consolation at the end thanks to Matt Caddy's Sambuka sweat!!
COLTS CRASH OUT OF SEWARD CUP
The Colts entertained 3rd Division Wembdon who had earlier in the season beat Sports Reserves and did themselves proud although they eventually lost 3-0.
Week Sixteen - 15th December
RESERVES EMBARRASSED BY SAINTS
BW Sports Reserves should have progressed through to the next round of the Seward Cup when they were drawn against lower division Wembdon Saints who the Colts had earlier destroyed in the league.
This wasn't to be the case and Wembdon Saints emerged 3-2 winners. Goals from Andrew Barnett & Jake Chidgey were not enough. Manager Neil Hope said he could now concentrate on the league!!
5 STAR COLTS DESTROY PORLOCK RESERVES
BW Sports Colts endured the dreaded A39 journey to Porlock however the journey home must have felt easier after they came away with 3 points after winning 5-0.
We are still awaiting details of the Goalscorers although we hear the Paul Organ scored two!!
Week Fifteen - 8th December
NO GAMES DUE TO BAD WEATHER
Week Fourteen - 1st December
FUZZY DOUBLE EASE SPORTS INTO NEXT ROUND
BW Sports entertained Alcombe for the second time in three weeks and once again came away easy winners after another outstanding performance.
With Manager Jason Bale still in America and with 5 jugs of lager up for grabs Sports outplayed their opponents from start to finish. Matt Fursland bagged a brace and Carl Tucker added a third to move into the next round.
RESERVES MAKE IT CLUB DOUBLE OVER ALCOMBE
BW Sports Reserves travelled to Alcombe Reserves also in the Rowbarton Cup and made it a great day against Alcombe eventually winning 3-2 after extra time.
Goals from Dean Organ, Jason Coleman and a rare strike from Matt Caddy who was later sent off (for telling referee Rex Selwood what every other player thinks of him) ensured that the Reserves were in the hat for the next round.
COLTS COMPLETE PERFECT DAY FOR THE SPORTS
With the Colts already safely in the hat for the Rowbarton Cup draw thanks to a bye they could concentrate on League duties. They entertained Westonzoyland Reserves and won comfortably 3-0 thanks to goals from the ever youthful Steve Redman and Kev 'Bun' Curran scoring the other.
This win puts the Colts top of the table after Old Inn went down 4-2 to Stogursey.
Week Thirteen - 24th November
SPORTS WIN 5 GOAL THRILLER
BW Sports travelled to beautiful pitch of Highbridge knowing they would have to work hard to beat an energetic Highbridge Town on a hard and bumpy pitch.
Unfortunately Sports without the influential Rich Smith at the back had the worst possible start finding themselves 2-0 down at half time and struggling to get into the game.
After the break a rejuvenated Sports led by skipper Prowse and his sidekick Sealey steered the Sports to a great comeback thanks to two own goals gifted by Highbridge and Matt Fursland silenced the Highbridge posse by slotting home the winner to keep Sports' title ambitions going.
RESERVES GO DOWN TO WHITE HART
Goals from Josh Bennett & Liam Derrick were not enough to stop White Hart Rangers take all 3 points in a top of the table clash.
COLTS SHARE THE POINTS WITH HIGHBRIDGE
BW Sports Colts dropped two points at home to Highbridge Reserves. A penalty from Jordan Meaker and a neat finish from Shane Smith good enough to gain something from the game.
Week Twelve - 17th November
SIX OF THE BEST FOR THE SPORTS SHOWBOAT
With First Team Manager jetting off to the States for three weeks Robbie Fearn took the reigns against top of the table and previously unbeaten Alcombe Rovers. Jason Bale had promised his players that if they won all three games he would get 5 jugs of lager in on his return and Sports made no mistake in getting off to the best possible result.
Goals from Steve Wood (2) Paul Organ, Jason Jones, Chris Clarke and Craig McGann ensured that the title race was blown wide open in what has been described as one of Sports best performances so far this season.
NETTO ON SONG AS RESERVES MAKE IT A BAD DAY FOR ALCOMBE
A Timmy Netto hatrick and Jake Chidgey goal made it a real miserable day for Alcombe as they beat their reserves 4-0
In what manager Neil Hope called their best performance this season they celebrated in fine style by having a pub crawl home and a karaoke night in Bishops Lydeard.
4-MIDABLE COLTS BEAT OLD INN
An excellent team performance from the Colts saw them beat leaders Old Inn 4-2 thanks to goals from Steve Redman, Kev Curran, Gareth Monaghan and Shane Smith.
The win puts Sports on the same points as Old Inn at the top of the table.
Week Eleven - 10th November
PENALTY HEARTBEAK FOR SPORTS
Bloody robbed is the only way it can be described about Saturdays game! Not just by a Chilcompton team who were under the cosh for almost the entire 120 minutes but also by a Referee barely out of nappies!
Sports eventually lost on sudden death penalties 6-5 to Chilcompton Sports but are left wandering how they never managed to convincingly beat a team who for the periods of extra time sat almost everyone behind the ball.
It was Chilcompton strangely enough who took the lead ten minutes into the Second half when there first shot on target found the net. BW Sports responded and it was no surprise when Carl Tucker superbly headed in.
Chance after chance went begging in extra time as did a stone wall penalty when Matt Fursland was fouled in the box but the Referee was the only person on the pitch to miss it and as the game came to an end so did Sports' dream of winning the Junior Cup for another season.
RESERVES SLIP UP AGAIN
BW Sports lost for the second consecutive week at home to Wembdon 4-2. Information to follow!
Week Ten - 3rd November
FUZZY'S PERFECT TREBLE TAKES THE POINTS
There has been plenty of Fireworks of late and there was plenty more to be seen at 'The Home of Football' as Sports entertained local rivals Marketeers.
Marketeers intentions were clear to be seen with some clattering challenges however they were down to ten men early on with a straight red card for retaliation. Sports struggled to adapt for the first twenty minutes but a Paul Organ tap in on the goal line gave Sports the lead after 25 minutes. Five minutes later it was two nil when Matt Fursland scored a neat header.
Just before the break Matt Fursland broke through again and rounded keeper Steve Baker before slotting home to make it three nil and surely game over.
After the break Marketeers came out looking to take something from the game and they pulled one back with a quickly taken free kick from Ian Luke. Sports came back strong and made the game safe when Matt Fursland completed his 'Perfect' hatrick with a cool finish after rounding several players.
Marketeers scored teh last goal when Chris Clarke slipped allowing Dave Baker to neatly finish past keeper Adam Rawle to amke it 4-2.
BOTTOM CLUB WATCHET TAKE RESERVES 100% RECORD
Watchet Reserves shocked BW Sports Reserves by taking their 100% record with an entertaining 5-4 win.
Still waiting on match deatils from Manager Neil Hope but Watchet went 2-0 up within ten minutes but Sports fought back well to lead 4-2 at one stage with goals from the in-form Andrew Barnett (2) Jake Chidgey & Timmy Netto.
However Watchet had their own fight back and took the game 5-4 and secured their first three points of the season.
FOUR-MIDABLE GARDINER DESTROYS SAINTS
Three goals last week and four goals this week - is there no stopping this man? Jamie Gardiner has proved an instant hit in just two performances for the Colts as they registered their first win in three games against the leagues new boys Wembdon Saints 6-1.
An Iaine Selway cracker started the show with the impressive Gareth Monaghan finding his scoring boots again to keep the Colts in second place just behind Old Inn FC.
Baby Congratulations!!
Congratulations to Steve Wood & his partner Sam on the birth of their baby boy on Friday 26th October. Named George and weighing in at 8lbs 2oz the club are hopeful of yet another future signing in many years to come and wish them all well in the future.
Week Nine - 27th October
SPORTS 5 STAR SHOW
BW Sports took on bottom place Norton and dominated the game from start to finish. Although Sports hit five it could it have been at least double that if even half the chances had been taken.
An early goal from the in-form Darryl Cocks started the scoring and was followed by goals from Paul Organ, Matt Fursland, Jason Jones and there was even a rare goal from Carl Tucker.
It was also pleasing to see the Sports keep their first clean sheet of the season.
RESERVES WIN 5 GOAL THRILLER WITH LATE BLEWETT GOAL
The Reserves put their cup disappointment behind them by maintaining their 100% league record against a strong Staplegrove Colts team that was clearly bolstered by their Reserves having no game.
Sports went ahead through a Timothy Netto strike before Grove equalised. An inspiration substitution from Manager Neil Hope bought Dave Gardiner on who made an instant impact by restoring Sports' advantage.
However the lead was not too last long after a 45 yard back pass from Striker Barnett to the outrushing Keeper Justin Cook went completely under his swinging foot and rolled into an empty net to make it two all.
The Reserves secured three points to stay top of the table thanks to a late Blewett goal set up by a Dave Gardiner flick and then this time held on until the final whistle.
GARDINER HATRICK SECURES GOOD AWAY POINT
After last weeks first defeat it was key that the Colts got back to winning points again but they suffered the worst start possible by being 3 goals down within ten minutes against a rampant Stogursey.
Steve Redman pulled one back before half time to give the game a little hope. After a few stern words which cannot be entered onto this family based website & an inspirational substition the second half was a different story.
Substitute Jamie Gardiner came on and showed his class with a hatrick that put the Colts 4-3 up after being 3-0 down. However the Colts could not hold onto this lead and Stogursey equalised making it 4-4 which is how the game ended.
WANTED! Old Sports Photo's & Newspaper Cuttings to go onto the Website. Also I am looking to compile an A-Z of Sports players past & present so if you can think of anyone please jot their names down and give to me at Football.
All photo's etc will be returned!
Week Eight - 20th October
SPORTS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
After three weeks with no win Sports First Team were looking to ensure it wasn't a fourth week and started extremely brightly and found themselves two goals up within ten minutes. Goals from Jason 'Fry' Jones and Matt 'Fuzzy' Fursland doing the damage.
Locomotives pushed hard but couldn't find a way past the impressive Adam Rawle in goal as the game went into half time. The second half saw Locomotives finally score with a low drive but Sports unlike past weeks upped the tempo and went three one up with a Craig McGann header to secure three welcome points.
LATE GOALS SEND RESERVES OUT OF THE CUP
Two late goals from Glastonbury Reserves senyt BW Sports Reserves crashing out the Intermediate Cup at the first hurdle.
Sports started the brightest and went one goal up before Glastonbury equalised. Sports then restored their advantage and squandered severall chances to win the game before the two late goals.
Manager Neil 'Jan Molby' Hope said he could now concentrate on the league!
OLD INN TAKE COLTS 100% RECORD
BW Sports Colts suffered their first defeat of the season away to then second place Old Inn.
A goal within 30 seconds was not the best start for the Colts but they battled well but a rare Spencer Frost finish levelled the scores. Old Inn restored their lead and with the Colts know chasing the equaliser Old Inn secured the points with a goal in the last minute.
Joint Manager Andy Farkas praised his teams efforts in a gallant display against a tough Old Inn Team.
Week Seven - 13th October
UNLUCKY 13 FOR SPORTS IN A 9 GOAL THRILLER
It was unlucky 13th day in October for BW Sports who became the first team within the Club to loose this season going down 5-4 to Wyvern.
After a bright start Scott Sealey slotted in from 6 yards after 10 minutes and with Sports lookingthe most likely to go on and win the game a case of Deja Vu set in when Wyvern scored after 25 minutes with their first attempt at goal and only moments later when 2-1 up with their second shot!
This soon became 3-1 and it was a releif to get into half time. After a few words Sports set out confident of getting in the game and again were the better team early on but fell behind to an excellent finish from ex Taunton Town striker Lee Hellier who helped himself to 4 goals.
When most teams would fold Sports never gave up and goals from Jason Jones & Craig McGann made it 4-3 with fifteen minutes still to go, however a quick break from Wyvern caught Sports defence cold and Helleir grabbed his 4th and Wyvern's 5th.
Again Sports kept pushing and an excellent run from Fuzzy ended when he was brought down in the box and Rich Smith cooly finished for his second in two games and with 5 minutes still remaining there was still hope they could grab a point.
Sports pushed hard again and Wyvern cleared one of the line but that was as close as it got and as the final whistle blew it seemed like Wyvern had just won the laegue!!
Although Sports under performed for large patches throughout the game credit must go to the players for there never say die attitude & will surely bode well in the long season ahead.
ORGAN HATRICK KEEPS SPORTS ROLLING
Leaders BW Sports Reserves maintained their 100% run by beating local rivals North Petherton 5-3 in an early Kick Off slyly arranged by Manager Neil Hope whilst the other two Sports teams kicked off at the usual 2.30!
Sports rushed into a two goal lead thanks to goals from Paul Organ before Pethy pulled one back. Sports then made it three as did Paul Organ claiming his first hatrick of the season.
The rout continued with 'Barney' maintaining his fine form this season banging in a another couple to make it 5-1. Pethy to their credit kept pushing and got some reward with two consolation goals to end the game 5-3.
JACK TREBLE KEEPS COLTS TOP
BW Sports Colts met Swallowfield for the second time in succession and once again eased to three points albeit in not such style as the week before.
17 year old Jack Taylor was one of the more senior players today and showed his class with an astute hatrick & was soon after the game texting the First Team manager telling him what he was missing!
The other goal of the game came from old head Kevin' Bun' Curren scoring his first goal for the Club.
Joint managers Andy Farkas & Paul Walford were both eager to point out that this was the second clean sheet of the season and that neither the first or the reserves had managed such a feat!!!
Week Six - 6th October
SPORTS DROP MORE POINTS
BW Sports remain top of the table although they threw a two goal half time advantage away at home to local rivals Cossington. Goals from Simon 'Fox in the Box' Dodden and Richard Smith gave Sports a well deserved lead but in 5 crazy second half minutes saw the game turned on its head. Firstly a speculative shot from Simon Caddy somehow went in after a Keeper error and then two more goals quickly followed to give Cossington the lead. A Darryl Cocks free kick from over 40 yards out levelled the scores after another Goalkeeping blunder. As much as Sports pushed forward they could not find that elusive winner.
LATE WINNER KEEPS RESERVES 100%
BW Sports reserves travelled to Milverton looking to maintain their excellent start to the season and sonn found themselves a goal up. Milverton equalised but Sports showed their class and secured 3 points with a late winner. Rumour has it Cooky was offered a bribe after he let a shot from the half way line squeeze through his legs only for it to be cleared off the line!
I apologise for no scorers names but Neil 'Jan Molby' Hope forget to say anything!!
SUPER COLTS DESTROY SORRY SWALLOWFIELD
BW Sports Colts have the distinguished honour of keeping the first clean sheet in the club so many congratulations to them!! Yes a jug will be bought soon!
Jack Taylor opened the scoring in the first minute & Sports never looked back from then on. Paul Organ made it two and further goals followed including a rare strike from Adam Clapp...yes that said Adam Clapp!
Sponsored Run In Memory Of Hedley Rawles
During the summer, Andy Farkas entered a 10K 'Fun(!) Run' and raised nearly
£200 in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Service. He chose to
take part in the event (his first ever) to raise money for the charity
chosen by the family of Hedley Rawles - a long serving clubman and friend
to BSSC FC, who sadly and suddenly passed away earlier in the year. Andy
would like to thank all the sponsors, particularly the lads at the club who
contributed the majority of the money raised - cheers!
The club would like to congratulate Andy on his efforts in doing so & by all accounts finished in a very respectable time!! Good work Farky!

The club are looking for any Bridgwater Sports information of old to add to the 'History' site. This can be Newspaper cuttings, photographs or any good stories! All cuttings and Photographs will be returned to you.

If you have any information please e-mail Jason Bale (see 'Contacts Page')
Week Five - 29th September
BELOW PAR SPORTS STAY TOP
BW Sports first team stay top of the First Division despite a below par performance against free scoring Taveners. Sports who were missing the in-form Jason Jones & Darryl Cocks started brightly and deserved to take the lead when Captain James Prowse netted from a Matt Fursland cross after twenty five minutes. They took the lead into the half time but after a terrible start to the half Taveners Lee Hawkins equalised. The game became open with both teams looking for the win & thanks to some fine saves from Adam Rawle and an off the line clearance from a Taveners defender to deny Carl Tucker the game ended one all.
BARNETT HATRICK KEEPS RESERVES 100% RUN
In an entertaining game between Sports Reserves and Town rivals Sydenham a late strike from Sports Dave Gardner secured a 100% winning start to the season. Sports were bolstered by the return of Chris Clarke after a season away and proved he has not lost his touch by also scoring. The star of the show (so he tells us!) though was Andy Barnett who grabbed a hatrick to maintain his goalscoring prescence this season.
Special mention to Liam Derrick who went in goal when Justion Cook got injured and had an absolute blinder....oh no read it wrong..was blind!
APPLETREE FRIGHTENED TO FACE THE MIGHTY COLTS
The Colts game was called off in the morning when Appletree refused to play due to no official referee although they were offered a man who invented refereeing and has vast experience in the middle.
Rumour had it they were running scared of the Divisons hottest strike force of Monaghan & Redman!
Week Four - 22nd September
PISTOL PETE MAINTAINS 100% COLTS RECORD
BW Sports Colts kept up their superb start to the seaon by coming back from two goals down to beat Dulverton Reserves 3-2. Goals from Andy Epps, plus a debut goal from young Nathan Criddle made the game two all until super-sub Pete Tilling also netted his first goal for the Club to secure the three points & move them 5 points clear at the top.
CHIDGEY DOUBLE GIVES RESERVES WIN
The Reserves also kept up their excellent start and 100% record with a hard fought win over Williton. Goals from Andrew Barnett & two goals from Jake Chidgey earning the points.
FOUR-MIDABLE SPORTS EASE PAST MIDDLEZOY
BW Sports first team finally ended their season long jinx against local rivals Middlezoy thanks to a Craig McGann hatrick. Craig started the scoring after just 8 minutes but an excellent finish from Middlezoy's Kenzie Farnham a minute later drew the sides level. An exotic (or fluke?!) lob from Simon 'Fox in the Box' Dodden restored the lead. Further second half goals from Craig including a penalty gave him his hatrick and Sports three points to remain at the top of the table.
Week Three - 15th September
Week three once again proved to be a great week for the Club with both playing teams picking up 3 valuable points.
SPORTS DESTROY GROVE WITH LATE LATE SHOW
The First team came up against local arch rivals Staplegrove who in the past have done well at the Sports home ground. After 85 minutes it seemed as though the same was going to happen again until lake strikes from Darryl Cocks and Matt Fursland gave the Sports a deserved win.
3 OUT OF 3 FOR THE NEW BOYS!
The Colts kept their 100% record with an excellent win against an experienced Middlezoy Reserves. Goals from goal a game strike partnership of Gareth Monaghan & Steve Redman plus further strikes from Jordan Meaker and Marcus Payne gave the Colts a 4-1 victory.
The Reserves didn't have a game today.
Week Two - 8th September
Week two proved even more successful for BW Sports as all three teams secured victories in their respective games.
LATE REDMAN STRIKE WINS THE DAY FOR THE COLTS
The Colts played their first home game and entertained Porlock Reserves and went into a 2 goal lead thanks to goals from Gareth Monaghan and 'Wiggy'. Porlock fought back to two all but a late penalty from Steve Redman secured their second win of the season putting them top of the table.
PHILLIPS HITS 40 YARD SCREAMER AS SPORTS PROGRESS
The reserves were in action in the Rowbarton Cup and played local rivals North Petherton. It was Petherton who took the lead with a long range effort but Sports rallied back well with a superb effort from Aaron Phillips and further goals from Andy Barnett, Vinny and an OG to win 4-1 and go into the draw for the second round.
SPORTS BEAT CHAMPS IN OWN BACK YARD
The First team travelled to Porlock and put on an excellent performance to beat last seasons Champions 3-2. Jason 'Fry' Jones opened the scoring with a sublime finish from 20 yards. Darryl Cocks then squeezed in a second goal. Porlock then pulled one back just before half time and shortly into the second half an unstoppable effort drew the teams level. From thereafter it was one way traffic and with ten minutes remaining 'Fry' headed in the winner from short range to give the First team a well deserved victory.
After watching beat Isreal Sports enjoyed a messy mini-bus trip home!!
Week One - 1st September
The season kicked off with all three teams in action for the first time in many years.
LATE LOCO GOAL DENIES SPORTS
The first team travelled to Locomotives who were boasting a much improved team and came away with a point after conceding to a last minute goal. Jason Jones the Sports scorer.
RESERVES OFF & RUNNING WITH EASY WIN
The Reserves also travelled to Taunton beating Norton Fitzwarren Reserves 3-1 with goals from Jake Chidgey, Jason Coleman & Andy Barnett.
GAZZA 'BANKS' SECURES COLTS DEBUT WIN
The Colts in their debut game played Highbridge Reserves at the beautiful Wreck and came away with all 3 points winning 3-2. Veteran Steve Redman scored two with the newboy Gareth Monaghan scoring the other. Man of the Match was the ever youthful Gazza who made a string of wonder saves to put Gordan Banks to shame!
BW Sports 5-a-side Tournament
The club held their first 5-a-side tournament of which we hope will become an annual event. After the League Groups were played 8 teams ventured into the Quarter Finals, then the semi's and finally into the final where two Sports teams met each other in the Final. The Mighty Showboat who boast an unbeaten record in 5-a-side history (after they destroyed Taunton's Pitch Invasion winning the title two seasons running) met Farky's Allsorts and after a tight game in which ended 1-1 the match went into panalties. Mark Hill became the hero saving two penalties to clinch the trophy for the Showboat.
The Club would like to thank all players and club members who helped on the day as well as the 'Dibbles' & 'Brewers' who kindly gave up their day to run the BBQ.

Found - Colts Manager!
We are pleased to announce that former First Team manager Andy Farkas & Paul Walford have joined forces to become the 'Dream Team' pairing to manage the newly reformed Colts. Best of luck to you both!
Wedding Congratulations!!
Congratulations to Rich Harris & Olly on their recent weddings over the summer months. The club wish them and their partners all the best.....especially Mrs Townsend for trying to tame Olly!
