After last weeks disappointing result Sports made the long trip to Porlock via Ted in the Mini-Bus, hoping to secure three points against last seasons champions.

Darryl Cocks returned after his cricketing heroics for Bridgwater replacing Robbie in centre midfield, Carl up front with Fry and Fuzzy in midfield. The team talk at the start was to push Porlock back and take the game to them in which we did creating many opportunities which Porlock defended well.

Sports dominated play for the first 40 minutes limiting Porlock to long balls to the lively front two but again the back three of Sports defending well giving nothing away. After 25 minutes an excellent through ball gave Fry the opportunity to break away and coolly place the ball past the despairing dive of the Porlock keeper to give Sports a deserved lead. Sports then had various opportunities to increase their advantage but again wasted chances.

Darryl Cocks finally made the breakthrough when he finished from a tight angle after 33 minutes and with Sports heads up they should have gone on to finish the game, but after 43 minutes a hopeful cross led to Porlock pulling one back with their first chance of the game.

At half time the hard working Wood was replaced due to injury to be replaced by Jake Chidgey who played on the left, with Tucker dropping back and Si Dodden joining Fry up front.  Again the talk at half time was to push them back and use the space on the flanks but it was Porlock who started the brighter and after 50 minutes they equalized with an outstanding effort which gave Adam no chance.

This spurred Sports into action and although they dominated the rest of the game they just couldn’t find that elusive goal until ten minutes from time Fry found some space at the far post and headed in the winner to give Sports three deserved points.

The performance today was 10 times better than last week but the good thing is that we can still play better than that. There were again some outstanding performances from Smith, Caddy, Jimmer, Cocks and lastly Fry who didn’t stop working for 90 minutes and was outstanding.

Star Man – Jason ‘Fry’ Jones for yet another superb performance and two goals

Donkey – James ‘Jimmer’ Prowse for forgetting his boots!
